Ingredients

  • 1 oz of fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp of sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup of finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 6 oz of softened cream cheese
  • 4 oz of melted butter
  • 6 cups of shredded, cooked chicken from about 2 lbs of roasted chicken
  • 6 oz of ham, chopped into small pieces
  • 1 tbsp of Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp of white wine optional
  • 5 oz of Gruyère cheese, shredded

Method

Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). This step ensures your casserole cooks evenly and comes out bubbling and golden.
Step 2: Prep the Filling
  1. In a large bowl, blend the softened cream cheese with melted butter, lemon juice, garlic powder, and Dijon mustard until smooth. This mixture sets the foundation for rich flavor.
Step 3: Mix in Chicken and Ham
  1. Next, fold in the shredded chicken and chopped ham. You want to ensure every bite is packed with flavor. Raise a whisk if needed and mix until well-coated.
Step 4: Add the Cheese
  1. Stir in the shredded Gruyère cheese and mix thoroughly. This will contribute to the melty goodness we’re after!
Step 5: Transfer to a Baking Dish
  1. Take a baking dish (a 9x13 inch is ideal) and lightly grease it. Pour your chicken mixture into the dish, spreading it evenly.
Step 6: Bake
  1. Pop the dish into your preheated oven. Bake for about 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden and bubbly. Your kitchen will start to fill with amazing aromas!
Step 7: Final Touches
  1. After baking, let it cool for a few minutes. This helps the casserole set, making serving easier. Top with fresh parsley for a pop of color before diving in!

Notes

  • Use Leftover Chicken: Roasted chicken leftovers work wonders. You save time and reduce waste!
  • Don’t Overmix: When combining ingredients, gentle folding preserves the shredded chicken texture.
  • Adjust Cheese Types: Don’t feel limited to only Gruyère. Try Swiss or even a blend for a different flavor profile.
  • Add Vegetables: If you're feeling adventurous, spinach or broccoli can be great additions for extra nutrients.
  • Spice It Up: A sprinkle of red pepper flakes can add an unexpected kick if you like a little heat.
